Junk Kouture Review

Junk Kouture is a national competition for second level students in Ireland which challenges teenagers to create high-end wearable fashion from everyday junk. The rules state that the outfit must be made from reworked junk or other used materials that are beyond their intended purpose. The students must also choreograph a performance to showcase their outfit on the catwalk in one of four regional theaters. On the 10th of March, I was lucky enough to go to the Eastern Regional Final in The Helix in Dublin.

The judges were Darren Kennedy, Tracy Fahey, Yvonne Holmes and Rosanna Davison, and they take everything into consideration, be it designing, make-up, hair, modelling, music, dancing. I loved how all this could be combined into one competition. I was so excited to attend the event and it did not disappoint, in fact it exceeded my expectations. The talent was incredible, so inspiring to see what the students had come up with. The details were beyond impressive and I couldn't get over the imagination and creativity of these semifinalists.

. I had a fantastic evening and best of luck to all the finalists on May 2nd in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. If you get the chance to attend any of the shows I would highly recommend it, a feast for the eyes and inspiration.
